The CD spans decades of recordings by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band including the seminal track "Over in the Glory Land". This lost track was originally recorded by Allan Jaffe in 1970 and was discovered in the post-Katrina debris of Sea-Saint Studios. Ben Jaffe recorded the current PHJB banjo player Carl LeBlanc singing with the original PHJB ensemble. "This version of "Over in the Glory Land", bridges our past with our present" states Ben Jaffe. The CD also includes a prescient version of "Blow Wind Blow" by folk artist and street preacher, Sister Gertrude Morgan. Originally recorded in 1959, the song is augmented with accompaniment by current PHJB members John Brunious and Carl Leblanc with special guest Stanton Moore of Galactic on Drums. "Lord I Don't Want to be Buried in the Storm” is an unreleased number by Sister Gertrude Morgan which now seems prophetic. The playful "Eh Lah Bah" is a lost live recording performed by the iconic husband and wife team of Billie & De De Pierce at Stanford University in 1972. On "Precious Lord", Sing Miller performs with an all-star lineup of PHJB legends-Willie and Percy Humphrey, Narvin Kimball, Frank Demond, Josiah Cie Frazier and Allan Jaffe on tuba. Adding a modern twist to the proceedings, Ben Jaffe arranged and produced a remake of the Kinks classic "Complicated Life" featuring guest vocalist Clint Maedgen of the New Orleans Bingo! Show.
The DVD chronicles the band’s history and includes the first television appearance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on the Brinkley News Hour in 1961, rare concert footage from the Newport Jazz Festival and a video of Preservation Hall filmed in the early sixties. In a contemporary ode to New Orleans the DVD also includes a video for the song "Complicated Life". Directed by New Orleans native Henry Griffin and shot in the French Quarter months before the floods of 2005, the video follows Clint Maedgen through pre-Katrina New Orleans as he cycles through the French Quarter with a cast of revelers in tow and ends at Preservation Hall where the journey of Made in New Orleans began.

The Deluxe Box Set consists of reproductions of the original materials along with the CD and DVD.
More than just music, this unique box set is a musical, visual and historical exploration into the history of Preservation Hall. After Hurricane Katrina, Benjamin Jaffe salvaged master tracks of early Preservation Hall Jazz Band recordings from the legendary Sea-Saint studios which had been flooded by 8 feet of water. The tracks, which were originally produced by his father Allan Jaffe (1936-1987), inspired Benjamin to create a musical and visual experience that bridges the bands past to the present. Made In New Orleans is both a collaborative co-production between Allan Jaffe and his son Benjamin Jaffe and a meeting between the classic Preservation Hall Jazz Band lineup and the contemporary PHJB ensemble featuring John Brunious, Carl Leblanc, Rickie Monie, Joseph Lastie Jr., Walter Payton, Frank Demond, and Ralph Johnson. According to Jaffe, "Made in New Orleans demonstrates the sustainability of New Orleans Jazz as a timeless cultural art form."
A treasure trove of rare recordings, original photographs, a DVD and more! The Made in New Orleans box set includes peerless artifacts including candid unreleased tour snapshots, promotional photos from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, assorted memorabilia and a few surprises. Manufactured in New Orleans and hand assembled at Preservation Hall in the French Quarter, the retro-design was created by New Orleans based graphic artist Casey McAllister. No two box sets are alike.

In January 2006 Benjamin Jaffe drove to what was left of Seasaint Recording Studios in New Orleans to see what damage the flood waters that followed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina some four months earlier had wrought on the facility, hoping more than anything to salvage whatever master tapes he could. Amazingly, although most of the studio's tape vault was destroyed, he found the masters for the sessions his father, Allan Jaffe, had produced in the 1970s with the classic lineup of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band still intact a mere inches above the waterline. Refurbished, those tapes form the emotional core of this remarkable box set, which bridges the past with the present and essentially tells the story of the Preservation band, whose current members, although they ended up scattered across the country from Orlando to Los Angeles, all survived the hurricane and its aftermath. Don't expect the ensemble work Preservation is famous for, though. Jaffe has assembled a different kind of history here, combining 1959 vocal performances by Sister Gertrude Morgan, unreleased gems from his father's 1970s sessions with the band, scattered radio and television introductions, and material the group was working on just prior to Katrina into a sort of personal photo album that reverberates with loss even as it suggests and points toward a hope in the future. This set, assembled with dozens of very real mementoes (photos, press passes, receipts, etc.) is intended to be something to hold, to literally hold on to, in a world that revealed itself in the wake of Katrina to be unreliable and full of tragedy and abandonment. In a sense, this set has literally survived Katrina, and as such, it gives tremendous hope even as it also points to how much was lost in the city of New Orleans. Among the highlights musically are Sister Gertrude Morgan's emotionally haunting 1959 rendition of "Blow Wind Blow" and a striking version of "Over in the Gloryland," which merges the instrumental track of the tune produced in 1976 by Allan Jaffe with Carl LeBlanc's poignant vocal track added in 2006 and produced by Benjamin Jaffe into a single statement of cohesion, bridging what was with was is and also with what one hopes will be. The Hurricane Sessions is a tremendously moving artifact. There is the music, yes, which is marvelous and enduring, and a DVD video history of the group, but in this case, it is also something beyond that -- an object to hold dear. Literally.
