"The Violin Concerto ... in its urgency and sense of drama is among the most impressive for a long time, with Gil Shaham producing ravishing sounds." -- www.guardian.co.uk
"Shaham, a Juilliard grad, has a technique that has seen few equals and the winning charisma to go along with it." -- www.classical.net
A familiar and well-loved repertoire forms the basis for the 2002 European Concert, this time held in the Sicilian capital Palermo. It also has significance as the last time in his twelve years as artistic director of the orchestra that the great Italian conductor Claudio Abbado conducted one of its European Concerts.
The magnificent Teatro Massimo, one of the largest and most important opera houses in Europe both architecturally and artistically, is regarded as a symbol of Palermo's cultural rebirth and, as such, was an ideal setting for the Berlin Philharmonic's thirteenth European Concert. |
