Recorded: 1998, Salzburg Festival
A new production of the Kurt Weill/Bertolt Brecht opera which depicts the consumerism of the mythical city of Mahagonny, conveying all of its ripe decadence. In this sumptuous Salzburg Festival production, Mahagonny is presented as a Hollywood Babylon full of pyramidal towers, carved elephants, commodified sex, and licensed gluttony.
