Vienna Boys' Choir perform Mozart for 'Mozart Year'. The superb Vienna Boys' Choir couples the early "Waisenhaus' Mass, with the late "Ave verum corpus". The world-renowned Vienna Boys' Choir presents a selection of Mozart's beautiful sacred works, ranging from the magnificent Waisenhaus Mass – an early masterpiece from the 12-year-old composer – to the celebrated and sublime Ave verum corpus, written in the last year of his life. All six works were filmed in two outstanding Austrian baroque churches, the Waisenhaus Mass in the glorious Hofburgkapelle in Vienna, and the remaining works in St Stephan's in neighbouring Baden bei Wien. The disc additionally features two substantial extras: an 18-page on-screen and comprehensive Mozart Chronology, listing and dating all the major works and events in the great composer's life, plus a Mozart Picture Gallery containing over 25 images, including several famous paintings of Mozart. This release is one of three new DVD releases, marking the forthcoming 250th anniversay of Mozart’s birth, in January 2006. The others are 1991 Bicentenary performances Mozart’s two greatest choral works – the Requiem and Mass in C minor, conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner – and a dazzling performance of Mozart's last two symphonies, given by Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic at a Salzburg Festival concert in the same year.
