The Berlin Philharmonic performs a European Concert 1991 annually to celebrate its founding on 1st May 1882. These jubilee concerts have taken the ensemble to, among other places, music centres such as London and Florence. The performance series staged its premiere in 1991 in Prague, where not only the proximity to Berlin played a role in the selection of the performance venue: the Czech capital is historically as well as musically one of the most interesting cities in Europe.
In the Mozart Year 1991, the Berlin Philharmonic, under the baton of Abbado, naturally introduced the concert cycle with an all Mozart programme. |
