"An inspired activist, Georges Aperghis continuously mixes codes and languages, in an endless quest to make sense of a balkanized world." Les Inrockuptibles
Film 1: More than anyone, composer Georges Aperghis embodies contemporary musical theatre. As a master of meticulous observation with a strong sense of humour, he has invented a new alliance between words, sound and visual elements. Musicians become actors, actors become singers. In STORM BENEATH A SKULL, Juxtapositions presents his original artistic approach by exploring the full range of his creative diversity between 1974 and 2005. His musicians, among his most loyal followers, shed light on his creative process and share their perception of his work. Film 2: in a little more than forty minutes, Georges Aperghis blows to pieces and reinvents THE LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, using the original text of the classic 17th century tale created by Charles Perrault - without the hunter or the happy ending. Inside their music box, the six young performers from Ensemble Reflex become embodiments of their instruments and lend themselves to the fantastic games imagined by the composer and stage director. A wonderful show accessible to all, this theater play leaves the audience breathless, with its dazzling glissades, bizarre masks, enigmatic lighting and little red riding hoods criss-crossing the stage with the wolf in hot pursuit. |
