* Il Crociato in Egitto was Meyerbeer's last and greatest Italian success and it was the opera that made his name on the international scene.
* Meyerbeer is known to have been one of the most celebrated composers in his own lifetime but also one of the most contested after his death.
* The composition of Il Crociato in Egitto came at a key moment in Giacomo Meyerbeer's artistic life. A composer of over thirty years of age and a man of great talent, Meyerbeer was now mature for operas of more incisive impact his previous albeit successful works.
* Meyerbeer composed Il Crociato in just over one year, at the end of the German composer's so-called "Italian period".
* Meyerbeer was one of the last great composers to use the voice of a castrato for the part of the "primo amoroso" Like almost all Meyerbeer's operas, Il Crociato makes great demands of its performers in vocal terms: the vocal style is Italian, richly embellished in parts certainly Rossinian, but there is no lack of personal choices that offer a glimpse of the development of the decidedly romantic vocal models to come.
*The plot, so rich in events, skilfully weaves historical-religious elements with private happenings and feelings. Against the background of the interreligious conflict between Christians and Muslims, the story of the main characters unfolds in an efficacious alternation of grand choral scenes and solo numbers with arias and cabalettas.
* "....Giacomo Meyerbeer's "Il Crociato in Egitto" (The Crusader in Egypt), which this week opened La Fenice's current season. The first staging in modern times of the last and most famous of the six operas Meyerbeer wrote for Italy early in his career, the production has already won praise from Milan's Corriere della Sera as "the most important musical event of 2007." (International herals Tribune)
* "...Marco Vinco excelled as Adriano's Egyptian patriarchal counterpart, the sultan Aladino." (International herals Tribune)
