Dido, Queen of Carthage, admits Trojan Prince Aeneas to her court when his ship is blown off-course on his way to Italy. She is hesitant to admit her love for him, but is encouraged by her maid Belinda, and soon the two are to be married. Meanwhile, the Sorceress and her witches plot against Dido, planning to trick Aeneas into leaving Carthage. Filmed entirely on location at Hampton Court House. Includes such well-loved numbers as 'Dido's Lament', 'Come Away, Fellow Sailors', 'In Our Deep Vaulted Cell', 'Haste Haste to Town' and the catchy 'Fear No Danger to Ensue'. Purcell originally wrote this piece for an all-girl school. |
