The grande dame of Georgian music has an especial fondness for Mozart and the Romantics; her friend Sviatoslav Richter, who was not given to flattery, described her playing of Schumann as "beyond comparison"; and she understands Russian music as only a Slav can. A former pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, where she herself now teaches, Virsaladze has long passed the stage where she needs to worry about technique. |
