This 1977 session, which marked the end of Keith Jarrett's contract with Impulse! as well as the disbanding of the quartet, is particularly unusual in that the bulk of the material comes not from Keith but from Margot Jarrett, Paul Motian and Dewey Redman. There's even an obscure Alec Wilder gem thrown in for good measure. The performances, though no less inventive, are less turbulent than was standard. There had been much speculation about tension between members of the band and about its dissolution leading up to this session. But by the time of recording, the decision to disband had been reached. These final statements by these four brilliant musicians as a unit have an air of peaceful harmony and resolve.
