John Taylor - piano Palle Danielsson - double-bass Martin France - drums
British piano virtuoso John Taylor delivers this new exquisite album, where he performs with Swedish bassist Palle Daniellson and drummer Martin France. Trio music of the highest order.
"...one of the best piano trio records of 2006." ---J.Kelman - All About Jazz
"I thought that it was going to be an easy job when JT asked me to write some sleeve notes for his latest album. After all, John has been one of my very best friends for over thirty years now...Thirty years!! Was all that action at 'The Old Place' and 'The Three Tuns', Beckenham thirty-odd years ago? It seems just like yesterday. Well, in case you missed all the fun, I have to tell you that John Taylor was quite a piano player way back then! Of course we were just trying to find out what this fantastic music called Jazz was all about in those days. What an adventure! - and JT was out there with the rest of us - searching for something - I'm not sure that we knew exactly what we were looking for, but we were having a great time looking for it!" ---Liner notes by John Surman

John Taylor has long been one of the top modern jazz pianists in the British jazz scene. When featured in a trio, as he is on 2004's Angel of the Presence, he can often sound close to both Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans. That is the case on this CD even though neither Evans nor Jarrett ever performed this material, comprised of originals by Taylor, Steve Swallow and Kenny Wheeler. The modern structures challenge Taylor, but he consistently comes up with melodic and thoughtful ideas. Taylor works closely with bassist Palle Danielsson and the subtle drummer Martin France to create moody music that has its own logic. It is well worth several close listens. ---Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
