The legendary George Coleman, who has led his Quartet in major concert halls, festivals, and clubs throughout the world since 1972, is featured here in his first tribute to a single composer on I Could Write a Book. Saxophonist George Coleman, one of America's most highly regarded musicians and teachers, focuses on the music of legendary American composer Richard Rodgers for his Telarc debut.
The idea for Coleman to record an entire album of Rodgers' material sprang from a concert tribute to Rodgers and songwriting partner Lorenz Hart featuring Coleman's quarter. Choosing and arranging thirteen of Rodgers' compositions for his band, Coleman has honed his quartet to perfection. George Coleman himself could write a book on the history of modern jazz. I Could Write A Book: The Music of Richard Rodgers would be another splendid and powerful chapter.
Includes liner notes by Lance Goler and Dan Morgenstern.
