Jazz / Bop; Cool
Recorded: Feb 1961, Peter Ind Studio, New York, New York
One of only a handful of duet recordings by these old friends, this one has one of those quirky fables that certain rare, obscure recordings possess. Zoot and Al had recorded together for Coral, RCA and Mercury, but in 1960, a budding entrepreneur named Fred Miles bankrolled his first (and only) title for his own small label. A very strong rhythm support including the cool Mose Allison at the piano, Bill Crow on bass, Gus Johnson on drums and Cecil "Kid Haffey" Collier shouting a few blues tunes, was assembled. The album, after limited distribution and sales, became a holy grail in the years to come for Jazz fans who had waited too long. Stereo copies on vinyl are especially rare. Now, resurrected from the original stereo masters this cool duel-tenor summit is available to audiophiles in 24/96 DAD splendor.
