Ken Vandermark's Joe Harriot Project Ken Vandermark - tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet Jeb Bishop - trombone Kent Kessler - bass Tim Mulvenna - drums
Harriott was a contemporary of Ornette Coleman's in the 60s, and his free jazz experiements were no less exciting, but he never gained the same fame. Saxophonist Ken Vandermark attempts to set the record straight with this exciting celebration of Harriott's compositions. The tunes are filled with odd time signiatures, quirky stops and meaty lines that make for excellent improvisation on the part of Vandermark, Jeb Bishop on trombone, Kent Kessler on bass and Tim Mulvenna on drums. A strong tribute. ~ Tim Sheridan, All Music Guide |
