Jazz / Avant-Garde Jazz; Avant-Garde
Recorded:
Cool and relaxed - that's the first impression you get encountering ''Down Home''. Together these four offer some of the finest Jazz available, caressing the ear like finest silk, pleasantly cool and yet warm, wonderfully soft and glowing with the characteristic iridescent shimmer which only that most exquisite of fabrics can call its own. And all the while, Baron and his fellow men succeed in bringing together all these pleasant features in their music without ever getting even close to triteness, these guys are simply too cool for that. Nonchalantly, they groove, swing and pussyfoot through the 8 tracks of ''Down Home'' with utmost elegance - which inevitably brings up to the question why it's taken so long for the guys to record an album in this constellation. No doubt about it: ''Down Home'' has what it takes to be a classic.
