Birmingham's finest emerged early on in the second wave of punk rock and were quick to establish themselves as one of the most exhilarating bands on the scene. Within months thy had amassed a huge and loyal following that still thrives to this day. Their hard hitting albums and singles gave them UK indie chart success which was quick to bring them acclaim and commercial success abroad. They became the ultimate headline band on the international puck circuit and always delivered the goods in spades.
On 11th and 12th of November 1988 they played The Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim LA for two nights. Opening the Saturday show were fellow brits, the Adicts, during whose set a stage dive ended in a serious injury and resulted in a sudden and oppressive police presence. They demanded the show be cancelled and officers with dogs surrounded the auditorium. Heated arguments ensued, which led to the band's manager Jimmy Wren being arrested, a ten minutes of unparalleled intensity. The words 'police riot' were murmured as the PA guy started taking down the microphones and the audience began to climb the barriers. With few seconds to spare a stagehand appeared and announced the band could play a short set. It was an absolute blazer!
For the first time that infamous night is available on DVD in all its wild glory. Couple with that there is also rare footage from 1983 filmed live at the Victoria Hall, Hanley, UK. Together they demonstrate just why GBH have remained one of the most enduring punk outfits to emerge during the early eighties.
