Recorded: Jan. 10-11, 2005, Talking House Studios, Oakland, Calif.; Avalon Studio, Bethesda, Md.

There is no better name for a CD with this much soul. Ed Wiley's interpretation of such standards as "Without a Song," "Too Close for Comfort," and "'Til There Was You" are simply splendid. In addition, there are some wonderful originals and a couple of other very nice surprises.

Ed Wiley, Jr. has done it again.

His latest recording on Swing Records, "About The Soul," is yet another beautifully recorded, star-studded offering from the soulful "Texas Tenor."

"About The Soul," which follows 2001's "Sassy," features Kenny Barron and John Hicks on piano; Ben Riley and Mickey Roker on drums; Keter Betts on bass; and Jimmy Ponder and Kevin McNeal on guitar.

"I named this CD 'About the Soul' because that's what this music is all about," says Wiley, who picked a variety of tunes that showcase his rich, full-bodied sound, his unmistakable connection to gospel and blues, and his downright swingability. "And when I picked the rhythm sections for these sessions, I chose musicians who understand that part of the musical history. Therefore, when we got into the studio we could communicate naturally, through our instruments and through our spirit."

Wiley penned four originals, including a beautiful ballad "Giselle," which he dedicated to his former manager and publicist, Giselle Lancaster (who passed away shortly after "Sassy" was released), and a swinging, bouncy number, "B Man," which he penned for his son, Bryan.
