Jazz / Soul-Jazz; West Coast Jazz
Recorded: Jan 25-Mar 18, 1963
The '60s was such a fertile and prolific era in jazz that many gems were lost within the deluge of music being released at the time. Lou Blackburn, a young veteran of the Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington bands, had settled into the LA studio scene where his distinctive trombone solo work was heard on dozens of albums and films. But what fulfilled him was the exceptional quintet he led with trumpeter Freddie Hill and pianist Horace Tapscott. The group recorded two albums for Imperial before disbanding. Both albums, plus one unissued track, are gathered on this 80-minute CD, newly remixed from the original three-track tapes.
