Art Blakey combined three trap drummers (Art Taylor, Philly Joe Jones and himself) with seven percussionists including Sabu and Ray Barretto to create a formidable percussion ensemble on this 1958 session which produced two albums, both of which are included on this CD. Donald Byrd and Ray Bryant are the jazz soloists. The music shifts seamlessly from jazz to Latin to African with all ten drummers moving together in beautiful precision.
