Featuring Steve Thornton
Continuing in the tradition of The Rhythmic Construction of a Salsa Tune, this DVD explores the various rhythmic elements involved in World Music. Steve Thornton brings his years of expertise to a one on one setting with Latin Percussion, Inc. founder, Martin Cohen, as they discuss how to piece together a rhythm section for four separate World Music tunes. Steve details four different rhythms-Samba 6/8, Calypso and Inang. You will see and hear exactly how each musician's part interacts with the others. You will learn how to "color" songs with a vast array of LP products.
Percussionist Steve Thornton is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he is very active on the music scene. Prior to that, Thornton lived and worked in New York. In the course of his formidable recording career he has worked and recorded with saxophonist Sadao Wantanabe, Herbie Hancock, Mongo Santamaria, jazz legend Miles Davis and pianist McCoy Tyner, as well as Tracy Chapman, Mariah Carey & Michael Jackson. Steve Thornton has recently released a CD of his own entitled "Nature's Plan".
