Bridge 61 Ken Vandermark (clarinet, saxophone) Jason Stein (bass clarinet) Nate McBride (upright bass, bass guitar) Tim Daisy (drums) Bridge 61 is a contemporary jazz ensemble comprised of bass, drums, bass clarinet, and tenor sax (played by the dynamic Ken Vandermark). Bridge 61 takes its cue from Ornette Coleman's free jazz of the 1960s, but while the group favors freneticism and abstract canvases, they are also steeped in post-bop, chamber music, and bluesy groove. These elements are integrated masterfully into Bridge 61's aesthetic, giving JOURNAL's mercurial sound an underpinning of authority that makes listening to the album a compelling, invigorating experience.
Given the logistical hiatus that Spaceways Inc. has found itself occupying, Ken Vandermark was seeking to create another mode of expression for those groove-centric hunks of sound... Ergo: the birth of BRIDGE 61, featuring KV, Spaceways Inc. bassist Nate McBride, V5 trapman Tim Daisy, and newcomer Jason Stein on bass clarinet. With tunes crafted by these stalwarts, and dedications to THIS HEAT, JACKSON POLLOCK & SONNY SHARROCK- how can Bridge 61 miss? |
