Walkin', pianist George Shearing's fourth Telarc Jazz album, features the British-born jazz lord with long-time associate Neil Swainson on bass and the tasteful Grady Tate on drums. Shearing and his trio excel in this shimmering live-recorded performance at the Blue Note in New York City.
Shearing brilliantly embraces bop-influenced classics such as "Bags' Groove," "Subconscious Lee" and "Walkin'," and offers a rare rendering of Dizzy Gillespie's "That's Earl, Brother." The disc features a graceful, sparkling interpretation of "Suddenly It's Spring" and imaginatively impassioned ballads such as "My One and Only Love" and "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye."
Shearing continues to maintain that spectacular edge that has earned him accolades as an exalted jazz performer. With Walkin', the 76-year old jazz master ingeniously infuses eleven bop standards and sumptuous ballads with taste, wit and his exquisite swinging style, injecting the sheer power of his noteworthy "locked-hands" keyboard technique that clusters chords around right-hand melodies.
