Jazz

Worried Mind and I Almost Lost My Mind are two theme albums Ray Anthony recorded in the early '60s. Worried Mind is devoted to interpretations of country & western tunes, and I Almost Lost My Mind applies the same formula to a set of R&B songs. Both albums were made after Anthony had disbanded his big band and assembled a Vegas lounge act, and as a result, the albums are much more subdued than the brassy, danceable music that brought him success in the '50s. Both albums make use of a vocal chorus and are firmly in the easy listening camp: smooth, mellow, contemplative, but without the unique instrumental blend that characterized Anthony's big band.

Born: Jan 20, 1922 in Bentleyville, PA

Ray Anthony played two years with Glenn Miller and ten with Jimmy Dorsey before forming his own band. Anthony led a group in the Pacific during World War II, then had a highly popular dance band. He probably has as much fame, if not more, as the writer of the theme for Dragnet, the novelty tune "The Bunny Hop," and the hit single "Dancing in the Dark." He also had plenty of film and TV work in the '50s, including an appearance in the film Daddy Long Legs.
