James Williams, who produced this CD in 1989, is proud of his Memphis roots. Four Pianos For Phineas features James and three other major Memphis-born pianists - Mulgrew Miller, Harold Mabern and Geoff Keezer - who are linked by their hometown and their long-standing friendship. This CD features only one pianist per track in a trio situation. The four finally do play together on the final track, a spirited "It Don't Mean A Thing."
