As one of the first artists signed to Blue Note when the label was restored in the late 1980's, Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias quickly became one of the foundations of the new roster. In the subsequent twelve years she recorded a series of discs that established her reputation as a musician and composer beyond peer. A precious few musicians in the field can provide the hard swing of bebop, a lyrical flowing pianism and endless innovation that Eliane can.
This first volume of her best work contains all original compositions, drawing on influences from her native country as well as jazz and pop. Taken from six sessions between 1988 and 1999, this disc features some of the greatest players in jazz.
Saxophonist Michael Brecker, trumpeter Randy Brecker, flutist Dave Valentin, bassists Christian McBride, Marc Johnson and Eddie Gomez; drummers Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine and Dave Weckl are just a few of the musical luminary guest stars.
