Essential -- a repackaging of the 1999 Blue Note compilation Trane's Blues -- collects a handful of tracks on which influential tenor saxophonist John Coltrane appeared, including two from his 1957 classic Blue Train. While this is by no means essential listening, it does, however, showcase the jazz legend's burgeoning abilities when he was still on the cusp of realizing his major innovations of the 1960s.
