A Roma gypsy living in Vienna, Harri Stojka is one of the leading gypsy swing guitarists in Europe, with several European releases and a substantial international touring presence. On A Tribute to Gypsy Swing, his first stateside release and Zoho debut, Stojka presents his highly virtuosic and swinging quartet with classic Django Reinhardt-style instrumentation (two acoustic guitars, bass, and snare drum played with brushes). The adventurous repertoire consists of Reinhardt compositions, nineteenth and early twentieth century songs from the Great American Songbook, an Austrian folk song, and one Stojka original. |
