The Gene Krupa Story is a 4 CD box set complete with a 32 page annotated and illustrated booklet celebrating the life and times of the greatest drum idol of all time. This marvellous package of 99 tracks has nearly five hours of playing time.
Our musical survey of the eventful first ten years of Gene Krupa as a bandleader is contained in this 4CD box. Disc One, Two and Three follow the musical development of The Gene Krupa Orchestra in chronological order with commercial studio recordings. Disc Four is made up of live broadcasts and transcription recordings, to demonstrate the excitement the band created before an audience and to provide an interesting comparison with the issued commercial recordings of some of the tunes.
These recordings span from 1938 to 1947 and include appearances from some of the greats of the era. Including Benny Goodman, Roy Eldridge, Charlie Ventura and Anita O'Day.
