With Book
BD Jazz is a new label which offers listeners an introduction to some of the greatest jazz musicians of our time through a two disc set of their most-loved songs. Additionally, a 16 page illustrated book is included, which offers an insight into their lives and music. This specially formatted piece is a must-have for jazz fans as well as jazz neophytes trying to learn about the genre.
From the late '40s to the mid-'60s, Nat King Cole was a massively successful pop singer who ranked with such contemporaries as Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Dean Martin. He shared with those peers a career that encompassed hits such as "Unforgettable", international touring, radio and television shows, and appearances in films. Before his emergence as a pop singer, Cole also spent a decade as a celebrated jazz pianist, leading his own small group.
Nat King Cole was one of the first Black American artists to reach such wide-reaching international celebrity. His records hit the pop charts no fewer than 78 times between 1944 and 1964 with such immortal songs as Pretend, Mona Lisa, Besame Mucho, Autumn Leaves, Embraceable You, Unforgettable, Nature Boy or I Love You for Sentimental Reasons… He was also an unavoidable figure in jazz: influenced by the rhythms of Earl Hines' playing, he exercised his own influence in turn on numerous pianists, among them Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Red Garland and Bill Evans. His success as a popular singer (he sold more than 60 million records) eclipsed his genius as a jazz pianist, revealed by the King Cole Trio. The two CDs accompanying this comic strip allow you to discover both facets of Nat King Cole.
Disc 1: Unforgettable Nat King Cole - 58:05 min. Disc 2: Nat King of Jazz Cole - 60:58 min.
