Living Era pays tribute with a hugely enjoyable sequence of 27 of the finest of the 'Ken Mackintosh, His Saxophone & Orchestra' record series, opening with his Top Ten smash The Creep. Many tracks feature his eloquent saxophone playing, such as It Ain't Necessarily So, Harlem Nocturne, Black Velvet, Lovers In The Dark, Off Shore and the closing Misty. Interspersing the 20 instrumental tracks are seven vocals with singers including his trombonist Gordon Langthorn (later "Don Lang") (Tootle-Loo-Siana). One novelty item even features Beryl Reid in character as the Brummie "Marlene" (Tin Pan Alley Ball). |
