The BlowMonkeys appeared on the UK music scene during the early 1980's. Fronted by the enigmatic Dr. Robert, they started their recording career with RCA records in 1984 and released several singles including "Man From Russia", "Atomic Lullaby", and "Forbidden Fruit". It wasn't long before the distinctive fusion of jazz and soul won the hearts of the British record buying public. However, beneath that super smooth exterior lay a passionate anti-Thatcher streak that led to an outright ban by the BBC during general election. But, by then, The BlowMonkeys had already ensured a permanent place in the eighties music hall of fame.
Recorded live at the Marquee Club, London on 21st May 1985, this DVD is a rare opportunity to see the BlowMonkeys live in all their glory. A performance that is both musically and visually fascinating, this epitomizes the eclectic nature of the eighties music scene as Dr Robert and the band perform the very best of their early catalogue alongside some interesting covers. - T. Rex's timeless classis "Get It On" and Tom Jones' peerless "It's Not Unusual". Unadulterated, nostalgic joy!
The first ever DVD to feature one of the great English pop bands of the 1980's - The Blow Monkeys. The Blow Monkeys, led by singer/guitarist "Dr. Robert" and featuring Tony Kiley (drums), Mick Anger (bass), and Neville Henry (saxophone), broke through with the U.K. and U.S. Top 40 hit "Digging Your Scene" in 1986 and went on to place ten singles and four albums in the U.K. charts between 1986 and 1990.
Dr Robert also recorded a duet with Kim Mazelle, "Wait", which was a top 10 hit in the UK in 1989 - he continues to record and has just released a new solo album to satisfy the Blow Monkeys ever-loyal and enthusiastic fan base.
"Animal Magic" features a full show the band played in London on the eve of the release of their breakthrough album of the same name.
Amongst the tracks featured are covers of classic hits by T. Rex (Get It On) and outstanding tracks from the Animal Magic album including Sweet Murder. |
