Two saxophonists and one trumpeter hold sway in this three-CD Verve collection of candlelight music for lovers of all ages. Chet Baker proves that his fragile, intuitive vocals are an ideal foil for his trumpet playing on his versions of "You Go to My Head" and "Everything Happens to Me"; Johnny Hartman provides vocal assistance to saxophonist John Coltrane on the dreamy "My One and Only Love," while Coltrane himself plays lyrically on "Soul Eyes" and "Nancy With the Laughing Face"; and Stan Getz's famed partnership with Astrud Gilberto is featured on "Corcovado" and "Girl from Ipanema." Getz was one of the jazz's premier romantic saxophonists, and his versions of "Moonlight in Vermont" and "Alfie" are particular highlights.
