Art Farmer - trumpet Fred Hersch - piano Dennis Irwin - bass Billy Hart - drums
Although he came to prominence when most young trumpet players tended to be brash and extroverted, Art Farmer developed a style that is lyrical and wistful, but still swings. The legacy of his years with Lionel Hampton, Gerry Mulligan, Horace Silver and Benny Golson shaped a great musical versatility that enables him to play up-tempo blues, subdues ballads and experimental sounds with equal ease. Here on trumpet and flugelhorn, he brings a refined soft-edged tone to favorites such as Blue Monk, Charlie Parker's Red Cross, Cedar Walton's Firm Roots and many more. He also gives an inside look at his life and music as he reflects back on his years in both Europe and the United States. |
