One of the giant figures in jazz history, Benny Carter was an extraordinary multi-talented musician who mastered ever facet of jazz by the time he was in his early 20s. He was a trendsetting arranger, bandleader, and a composer, plus a virtuoso soloist on both alto sax and trumpet. Fifty years later, his youthful, fluid tone still intact, he leads a swinging quintet of seasoned innovators in this concert of jazz standards. The group performs exuberant versions of 'Take the A Train' and 'Honeysuckle Rose', a lush 'On Green Dolphin Street' and a poignant 'Misty'. |
