Best Jazz Albums of the Year by the New York Times, Jazz Times, Downbeat and AllAboutJazz.com
Jazz / Avant-Garde Jazz Free Jazz
Recorded: May 26, 2000, Seltzer Sound, New York, New York
William Parker: bass Hamid Drake: drums Rob Brown: alto sax Lewis Barnes: trumpet
Self-produced and initially released in an edition of 1000 copies on William Parker's own Centering Records, the album was sold exclusively at gigs and through mail-order. It quickly sold out. In April of 2002, AUM Fidelity issued a second edition of 2000 copies in digipak format, making the album widely available. This edition too sold out within the year. It is now available again in a third edition of 3000 copies. O'Neal's Porch is a tremendously gorgeous, deeply swinging, and highly inspired recording which brings great joy to all who hear it; destined to be a stone classic of this era. --- SJ |
