Two complete TV Shows shot in the course of the same week during Wes' 1965 European tour.
While legendary guitarist Wes Montgomery was only captured on film on a few rare occasions, this remarkable DVD presents two complete TV shows from his scant video archives. In both settings the group looks relaxed, playing a combination of jazz standards and Wes' compositions. The music is typical of Wes: elegant and sophisticated. As he explained during an interview, when asked about the avant-garde: "I really refuse to participate in something that I don't know what part I'm supposed to be playing. I don't think I quite understand it. If they say we're gonna play and you just come in, well, they've got to tell me what to come in with! If a person likes abstract things he won't know how to explain it so he won't be able to tell me, so where do you go... Me, I play the conventional way because I feel like I have to."
These performances confirm the great skill, dedication and exquisite sensibility Wes Montgomery displayed in his art throughout his career. |
