This CD reissue has one of tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman's best early efforts. Freeman (who plays flute on his picturesque "Beyond the Rain") teams up with pianist Hilton Ruiz, bassist Junie Booth, percussionist Jumma Santos and the great drummer Elvin Jones for challenging but often melodic originals by Abrams and the leader, plus a warm version of "My One and Only Love." Fine music from the flexible tenorman.
