Jazz Jazz-Pop Jazz-Funk Fusion
This James Moody album was originally released on the budget label Paula in 1973 as Sax & Flute Man, before being reissued by Fuel 2000 with the new title The World Is a Ghetto. The majority of this disc sounds extremely dated, due in part to Jodie Christian's electric piano stylings. His dominating role tends to downgrade several tracks into generic fusion or the background music to an early-'70s exploitation flick. The few highlights include the reworking of War's 1972 hit "The World Is a Ghetto," bassist Richard Evans' funky composition "First Thing in the Morning," and the upbeat "Good Sense Humor Man," featuring Moody on flute. For the most part, this is a mediocre date. ---Al Campbell, allmusic
