LARRY WILLIS has played on more than 300 records. He's played or recorded with almost every great jazz musician of the modern era, stars like Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan, Woody Shaw, Hugh Masekela, Cannonball and Nat Adderley, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Art Taylor, Clifford Jordan, Carmen McRae, and Shirley Horn. For his HighNote debut Larry comes full circle, so to speak for he is back in the studio with his long-time friend and colleague, Al Foster, who was in Larry's very first jazz piano trio while both were seniors at New York's High School for Music and Art. Also on hand is bassist extraordinaire, Buster Williams and together they show what three music masters can do with a repertoire of tunes by Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Rodgers & Hammerstein and others along with two of Larry's own inspired and intensely interesting compositions. |
