Pianist Larry Willis' catch-phrase might well be "been there, done that." Once identified with on-the-edge free music, Larry then moved to hard bop in the '80s and '90s. The list of his previous collaborators is as diverse as it is illustrious: Jackie McLean, Hugh Masekela, Lee Morgan, Robin Kenyatta, Cannonball Adderley, Joe Henderson, Groove Holmes, Blood, Sweat And Tears and Alphonse Mouzon among others. On BLUE FABLE, Larry leads a unique front line of Joe Ford's alto sax and Steve Davis' trombone and the rhythm section of Eddie Gomez on bass and Billy Drummond's drums through a program which displays Larry's exuberance, introspection, spirituality and sheer joy in the act of making music. |
