Jazz Cool Standards Bop
Recorded February 27, 1981 in Hilversum, The Netherlands
Jimmy Raney (G) Doug Raney (G) Jesper Lundgaard (B) Eric Ineke (D)
This was the first release by Criss Cross, one of the top bop-based labels in Europe. The CD reissue adds six alternate takes to the original seven-song program. The cool-toned guitarist Jimmy Raney is teamed with his son Doug (who has a very similar style on guitar) along with bassist Jesper Lundgaard and drummer Eric Ineke. Together they perform one original and six standards in light but forcefully swinging style. The interplay between the two guitarists is a major plus. ---Scott Yanow, allmusic |
