Jazz Soul-Jazz Hard Bop Jazz-Funk
Recorded: November 16, 1960 and October 27, 1961, Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey
Grant Green - guitar Wynton Kelly - piano Paul Chambers - bass Philly Joe Jones - drums
*Grant Green - guitar Sonny Clark - piano Butch Warren - bass Billy Higgins - drums
This previously unissued session was Grant's first as a leader. There is no more perfect rhythm section than Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones who put this newcomer at ease. Dig his take on Nellie Lutcher's "He's A Real Gone Guy" and the swinging blues that is the title tune. Two versions of "Woody 'N You" come from another unissued date with Sonny Clark, Butch Warren and Billy Higgins. Considering the demand for Grant Green, this historically significant recording should have great impact in the jazz world, Mastered in 24-bit from the original master tapes.
Includes liner notes by Bob Belden |
