Claude Thornhill led one of the best-loved and critically-acclaimed big bands of the late 30s, 40s and early 50s, known for its progressive arrangements, unique instrumentation and influential personnel (including Lee Konitz, Red Rodney, Gil Evans and Gerry Mulligan). Rather than being just another all-hit collection, this CD explores the full depth and range of Claude Thornhill's legendary recordings as a piano-playing big band master for the Columbia label during his golden era - 1937 to 1947.
