The first purchase of a Shirley Horn record has a typical result: it sends you off on a scavenger hunt for all the ones you missed. Then you find that a complete set may never happen in your lifetime. Until now, this album has eluded even the most diligent collectors. Recorded for ABC-Paramount in 1965, TRAVELIN' LIGHT came at a time when this gossamer-voiced singer-pianist seemed destined to remain a connoisseur's delight and a commercial unknown. DOWN BEAT gave Horn's "breathy, airy close-to-mike purring" four stars, but within a year TRAVELIN' LIGHT vanished from the racks, returning with only this reissue.session |
