Vibes legend Terry Gibbs has some 65 albums to his credit, is the winner of 3 major jazz polls, and is known for stints with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich and Benny Goodman. In 1957 he formed one of the best loved and most influential Big Bands, the "Dream Band".
The music on Terry Gibbs' '52nd & Broadway' comes from the period that had an indelible imprint on countless musicians and other listeners - the bebop era. Accordingly the vibesman performs 14 quintessential songs of the era including compositions by Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Tadd Dameron. Complete with a full string section and an excellent rhythm team, this 2004 recording also features all-star soloists James Moody (saxophones) and Nicholas Payton (trumpet). |
