Recorded December 10, 2002 in Brooklyn, NY, USA by Max Bolleman Ralph Peterson (D) Jeremy Pelt (Tp / Flh) Jimmy Greene (Ts / Ss) Orrin Evans (P) Eric Revis (B)
For his third Criss Cross release with his quintet of up-and-coming stars - trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, tenor saxophonist Jimmy Greene, pianist Orrin Evans, and bassist Eric Revis - Ralph Peterson offers his most mature and accomplished album yet.
Like his mentor, Art Blakey, Peterson shapes the flow, stamping a set of primarily original music with his inimitable rhythmic personality.
Ralph Peterson
Active Decades: '80s, '90s and '00s Born: May 20, 1962 in Pleasantville, NJ Genre: Jazz Styles: Post-Bop, Hard Bop
During his relatively brief period in the spotlight, Ralph Peterson has already distinguished himself not only as a superior drummer but as an important bandleader too. It was natural that Peterson would be a drummer since four of his uncles and a grandfather played drums. He started at age three and, after attending Rutgers and settling in New York, he became a constantly working drummer. In addition to sessions with OTB, David Murray, and the Terence Blanchard-Donald Harrison group, Ralph Peterson led several diverse and adventurous sessions for Blue Note and Evidence, all of which are recommended. ---Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
