Recorded at the Riverside Park Arts Festival, New York City
As individuals, Kenny Barron and John Hicks have until now had much in common with Jones and Flanagan, for these players are each so highly rated as accompanists, able to cement together almost any group without attracting undue attention to themselves. As well as sharing this quality, Kenny and John have suffered the same consequence of delayed recognition, certainly from critics and other listeners. It comes as a surprise that both of them have been active on the New York scene for nearly 30 years and have been appearing in Europe since at least the mid 1960s.
Here, the piano duo are joined by Walter Booker on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums
Have a listen and you'll know just why the audience at the 1989 Riverside Park Arts Festival in New York City was so enthusiastic. |
