Sarah Vaughan's voice was one of the most amazing musical instruments of the 20th century. And although she sometimes had a tendency to overuse her incredible technique and range, intimate settings like this one, where she is just accompanied by guitarist Barney Kessel and bassist Joe Comfort, brought out the best in her interpretative abilities. She is at her artistic peak on this 1962 gem. Her version of Benny Carter's "Key Largo" is a masterpiece. |
