Soul Sessions is a playful, sexy, soulful summer record with warm, comfortable grooves for kicking off your shoes and dancing on the lawn. From the aptly named "Boom Boom" which sets up a chugging party rhythm to the mellow vibe of "Playing It Cool" where Golub trades soulful licks with GRP's Richard Elliot to Golub's burning guitar solos on the laid-back reggae anthem "Underneath It All" to the sultry groove of "Pass It On" to the macho swagger of "Cadillac Jack" to the churchy gospel feeling and horn choruses of "Back Home" to the plaintive, bluesy ballad "Can't Let You Go" to the pure '70s soul feeling on "Skin Tight", Soul Sessions is just that - a recording that captures the spontaneity and unmistakably soulful vibe of a live band laying down great tracks in the studio with full eye contact. Like the great R&B sessions that are Golub's inspiration, Soul Sessions brings the party directly to the listener's ears in a way that can be felt down to the toes. |
