"CrossWeave," the third recording by trumpeter Clay Jenkins and altoist Kim Richmond's ensemble, takes advantage of Jenkins' new connections to the east coast by featuring some of the best of New York's improvisors. Pianist Harold Danko, bassist Jeff Campbell and drummer Rich Thompson , collectively known as the Eastman Faculty Jazz Trio, add a rich swing and vitality to what has long been one of the West Coast's more creative groups. Also featured is tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, a fixture of the Maria Schneider and Vanguard Jazz Orchestras. New takes on "The Touch of Your Lips" and "Groovin' High" accompany a set of originals by Jenkins and Richmond. |
